Cell Level Meditation: The Healing Power in the Smallest Unit of Life

By Barry Grundland, MD and Patricia Kay, MA, CCH, CSD

Cell Level Meditation focuses awareness on the smallest unit of life for the purpose of healing. By meditating with the cells, you begin to awaken to the vast potential within yourself—to move to levels of greater self-awareness. You take a majestic leap as you find your own authentic experience, as an expression of what is going on all the way down at the level of the humble cell.

By simply looking at something, you change it. In Cell Level Meditation, you look into the cells of your body, and then go into the cells and become them, using the timeless technique of combining awareness with the breath. Perhaps for the first time you direct this ancient technique of awareness at the smallest unit of life: the cell.

You are given the tool and asked to discover your own way in. We don’t want to ruin the experience for you, but rather to provide suggestions, point the way, and validate experiences you are likely to have, and inspire you with our own and others’ experiences. You may have a vision or an insight, or some inner experience of shape/color/movement/sounds/smells. You may also feel a shift in your physical body. By taking the life breath into these experiences and staying very present with them, you discover your unique way of bringing harmony and healing to what is happening. This very simple experience often has profound effects as you open up to a new level of communication within yourself that may heal or enhance your experience of yourself in life.

“It’s amazing that you’ve been able to express the ineffable in ways that speak to beginners as well as seasoned meditators. The book and the method is very simple without being simplistic. It’s so profound!”

Dennis de Leon, MD, Orlando, FL

"The book is written with both poetry and precision. It synthesizes many ways of knowing and makes very complex material both accessible and fascinating. And it contains the wisdom garnered through years of authentic experience."

Julia Brayshaw, MA, Olympia, WA

"This book is a lively narrative that moves between macro and micro, from personal to global – a written expression of the expanding/ compressing practice of returning to breath. Engagingly, via an extensive body of knowledge, an illustration of every facet of our state of health is revealed through following what is innate and perpetually available. A deep exploration into our bodies’ most basic cellular structures, as well as how we might fit in as ‘cells’ of a larger cosmos, is pragmatically demonstrated throughout the text in the consistent practice of return to the vital function of breath. In fact, the book breathes!"

Dianne Miller, homeopath, Nehalem, OR

"Beautifully simple, practical and effective. This book gently invites you to explore your interior territory where you have access to infinite well-being and wisdom. Whether you are an experienced practitioner, or a newcomer, Patricia, and Barry have created a vivid and powerful guide that will help you become reunited with your wholeness within and between the spaces – the no-thing-ness and the some-thing-ness."

Stacy Scheel Hirsch, Certified Mindfulness Facilitator and Professional Coach, Olympia, WA

"The first version of the book was a nice guidepost on the journey, but this second edition has a different feel to it and takes us to a whole new level! It comes out of a deeper understanding and experience. What’s wonderful is that the book speaks in an easy way about something incredibly complex. In this beautiful simplicity, it can be read on several levels. By reading it again and again, the process can take you to deeper experiences of awareness for a more profound embodiment. It’s a book to hold and return to throughout your journey."
